Gen Z Pulse with Ogilvy Consulting: Designed for Contradiction

Gen Z is often thought of as confusing, contradictory, incomprehensible. They're not. Rather, modern life itself is.

Grounded in original research from Ideally with 2,100 global respondents across the US, UK, and Australia, Ogilvy Consulting's Gen Z Pulse 2026 cuts through the stereotypes to map the four structural tensions actually driving Gen Z decision-making today.

Discover how Gen Z navigates four core life tensions:

1. Function: optimisation vs indulgence. 76% actively manage their energy. 60% feel stressed or anxious all or most of the time. And in every market, sleep is the first thing they sacrifice.

2. Control: independence vs guidance. Fewer than one in six trust the national news, the presidency or big tech. 40% want input but insist on making the final call. They want a second set of eyes, not a prescription.

3. Identity: individual identity vs collective connection. Only 17% feel deeply connected to even one community. Fewer than one in five say belonging comes naturally. Belonging has become a job.

4. Presence: social natives vs skin hunger. Just 6% are satisfied with their in-person social life. 52% want more of it, ahead of travel, entertainment and career.

The winning brands in 2026 will reduce friction: helping Gen Z recover time, energy, confidence and connection. And half of Gen Z say they want to build that with brands, not just receive it.
